We decided back last fall, around about November, that we should introduce a sandwich menu to go with our soups. We had SO MANY people last summer and fall ask us "do you have sandwiches?" So we started talking about it and doing a lot of research. We wanted something HIGH QUALITY and upscale for East Beach. There are other sandwich places - the hotel coffee shop, the pub, and Poultry in Motion. They all offer the standard fare so we thought we should go for something different. As well, whatever we sold would have to match our "brand" - all natural, local, organic (where sustainable) and earth-friendly.
We also knew we'd have to buy some more equipment for our kitchen. Without a grill or even a stove, we could only poach eggs on our induction burner, so we practiced until we could poach them perfectly. We needed a good egg cooker for our "elevated egg salad" and went with a cute little one from Cuisinart. Also from Cuisinart we got this kick-ass food processor that dices and slices and makes our mayonnaise and garlic aioli and pesto with ease. We also got an awesome toaster oven from Cuisinart - it toasts, it steams veggies, it broils, it bakes with convection, it even proofs bread! Not that we'll use it to proof bread since we never make just a single loaf. But anyway, very very cool stuff.
Six long months later and here we are. Now every morning we pick up fresh vegetables and fresh-baked baguette. We get micro-greens delivered weekly - they're grown on a high-rise rooftop in East Vancouver! The salamis are made locally in Steveston by D'Original Sausage Haus - a family business for 65 years. No nitrates! Eggs are free-range organic. Cheeses are made locally. WE make our own mayonnaise, aioli, and pesto. Fresh every 3 days for you. We grow herbs in our own garden and make the herbed cream cheese for our smoked salmon sandwich (of course it's wild sockeye salmon). Here's the menu! It's on our homepage under "menus" whenever you'd like to reference it.
